The Democrats Are Still Lost After the 2016 Elections - Now What?

For the past couple of weeks, Trumpcare had a recent revival in the Senate, with four plans being discussed and all of them falling short of a majority. Every Democrat voted no on all plans along with a few Republicans to keep Obamacare in place at least for the time being. But instead of combating Trumpcare, which had a 17% approval rating, with medicare for all, which has a 62% approval rating, Democrats doubled down on Obamacare which will still leave about 28 million people uninsured by 2026. This is a perfect example on how Democrats are confused wandering into 2018.

Instead of adopting populist ideas, like medicare for all or ending the drug war, they are sticking to their guns and bringing up non-policy issues like Russia.

Yes, Russia may be a bigger issue than we think, but what are YOU going to do when you get into office, Democrats?

Some want to move to the right to appeal to voters who simply won't vote for them due to party lines while losing their progressive voters because their message isn't appealing to them. That's why Democrats are bleeding seats on every level of government.

While others want to focus on Donald Trump and how bad he is. They seem to gleefully ignore how that didn't work so well for the Clinton Machine just last year.

So if Democrats won't change their message even at this point, what can we do?

WE must become the Democrats.

As the progressive movement gets bigger and bigger every day, we must organize with one another to really make an impact. It is our biggest weapon against Republicans and regressive Corporate Democrats. And we are. Organizations like Our Revolution, Justice Democrats, and Nurses United are now working with each other to promote candidates for 2018.

And so is the Teen's Progressive Alliance with the Our Voice Initiative.

Our Voice, founded by Samuel Ronan, candidate for Ohio's 1st Congressional District, is an organization that has recognized that our government has been bought by big donors and do their bidding. Their goal is to put the government back in our hands and to fight for the people, not the corporations.

They are a grassroots organization and funded by the people, taking NO corporate money, fundraising in small amounts from large sums of citizens.

They train aspiring citizens to campaign at every level of government and guide those who are brave enough through the political jungle without taking corporate money.

They are at a statistical disadvantage because of this. Our Voice doesn't have the option to go to the rich and beg for millions for a campaign, the easy way in today's politics. To stay afloat, they need people like us to donate, to volunteer, or to even spread the word to others who may be able to do so. It's the only way progressives will have a fighting chance in 2018 and beyond. It's time to get off the sidelines and get in the game.
